The film begins with Maneck, a Marathi speaking boy from Mumbai, boarding The Grand Trunk Express to meet his father who lives in Punjab. On the train he meets Ishita, a Punjabi speaking girl who has escaped her wedding in order to catch this train to Mumbai where she lives with her grandmother. The two begin talking and soon discover that their parents are childhood friends. Ishita then asks him if he will help her run away since he is headed for Punjab anyway. He reluctantly agrees and the two become friends. Maneck's father is a ruthless, violent man who beats his wife. Maneck is forced to run away since he has just learned that his mother has died. After the train reaches Punjab, Ishita/Little Little Girl, now calling herself Manikya Maneck, seeks out Maneck once again. She plans to beg for food to eat and have him help her so she can reach Mumbai where her grandmother lives. Soon Maneck realizes how much the girl means to him and agrees to help her rescue her wedding which is taking place very soon. The two make it all the way through Punjab and on the train ride back home they begin a relationship and start making plans for their future together. Manickeh/Manikya Maneck is played by Rajkummar Rao, he plays an aspiring chef who boards the same train for Mumbai. He meets Ishita/Little Little Girl and soon falls in love with her. Rajkummar has done a fine job of playing this role and shows us that he is more than capable of playing non-traditional roles like this one.
